Mother's Day Magic...with Love Anthology...book by book: Book 11: The Light we Found by QD Purdu

Hi All

I had a glimpse at a USA protest rally yesterday, here in San Diego. As a visitor from the UK, it was all very exciting and a little nerve racking seeing all those police on motorbikes. Trump was in town, just a few hundred feet from where I am staying and I could see the rally from my window. I thought the police did a wonderful job and was very impressed at the control methods.  It was a bit louder on the streets and the pro and anti Trumps followers were kept well apart.  In the UK we do not tend to be so vocal in support of politicians, so I appreciated the passion from both sides. Anyway, it was an experience for me.

Today's book from the Mother's Day Magic Anthology is The Light we Found by Q D Purdu. This is the first book under this name, although the author also has a best selling YA book published under Brenda Vicars Hummel. Brenda/QD is an author to watch out for, she has a lovely turn of phrase and her writing is detailed and entertaining.

My review
In one day Calla's hopes, dreams and future all seem to be snatched away, leaving her drowning her sorrows in a bottle of wine. Being used to disappointments she picks herself up and sorts out her life one step at a time.  The man she had pinned her hopes on is pushed from her mind until she sees him again at her new job. QD Purdu is a fantastic writer and encourages her readers to empathise with the characters. This romance is not all about love, there is a message about listening and giving people a chance to explain. I enjoyed this 'second chance' story and look forward to reading more by QD.

I only have one more book to review. I hope these blog posts have been useful for you to get an insight of the books and authors.  I am off to check out The San Diego Old Town.

Mother's Day Magic...with Love Anthology...book by book: Book 10: The Day Before Eclosion by Adrienne Ruvalcaba

Every mother can appreciate the anguish when a child leaves home. But a mother of a child with special needs struggles more with the ability to let go.  Gracie has grown up and is happy to step out into the world, but her mother, Sharon, thinks she is not ready. In fact Sharon thinks she will never be ready. I love the way Adrienne has balanced all the arguments, by giving Sharon, Gracie and the father Martin, a chance to share their opinions. Growing up is hard for anyone, but Gracie needs to prove more than most, that she is capable of living on her own and holding down a job, while Sharon is still wrapping her in cotton wool.  A great story and well written.  I look forward to reading more books from Adrienne.

For those who may have forgotten there is a great auction today that all the Mother's Day Magic Authors are supporting. Please check out http://bit.ly/auctionforMS, all proceeds go to MS charity for research.

Mother's Day Magic...with Love Anthology...book by book: Book 9: The Illusion of Happiness by Neva Squires-Rodriguez

May 25th is MS Awareness Day and as 10% of Mother's Day Magic royalties is being donated to The National MS Society for research, I thought I needed to get all the books in the anthology blogged about to help raise awareness.  I have been a little tardy on the blogging front recently, but life happens and with family weddings, birthdays and travelling, sometime things get put on the back burner.  I apologise to Neva, Adrienne, QD, Cary and Tyler, for the delay for their book reviews. To make up I am going to post one a day over the next few days. My friend Donna Wolz (an MS Sufferer) is a staunch advocate of raising awareness of MS and fund raiser, as well as an Indie Author supporter. She is organising an Auction on 25th May at
bit.ly/AuctionForMS   if you have time please drop in and bid on one of the hundreds of items or services that have been donated.
As a side note, Donna is also putting together a recipe book, hoping the sales will raise more funds. If you have a favourite recipe that you would like to have included then please contact Donna at

I am now in the USA for a few weeks before heading back to Spain, where hopefully I will have more time to actually write and focus on my blogs.

Without further ado, let me tell you about the Illusion of Happiness by Neva Squires-Rodriguez

Gracie struggles to understand how her life turned out as it did. Married to the only man she has ever loved and having five children whom she is devoted to was everything she needed in her life. Gradually her fulfilled life crumbles as her husband finds another woman and her children grow up and leave home. As her fiftieth birthday approaches, the finality of the marriage strikes her hard as the divorce papers come through and her children have lives and families of their own.  Gracie decides she needs a week off work to regroup and to have a private melt down, she just needed some space alone, so cuts herself off from the outside world in an attempt to sulk in silence. Luckily her children have different ideas, and she find herself in a dilemma.
A well written tale of finding that inner strength you find when walls come tumbling down and well worth a read.

see you at the auction...bye for now
